Will Tony Blair Be A Spammer?

Despite nearly 2 million people voting against proposed road tax charging, this week the Government announced that they’ll be pressing ahead with their reforms and that Tony Blair will be emailing all those who petioned. According to The Guardian they will be contacted in the “form of an email from the prime minister, explaining the pricing plans in greater detail”.

Now, we send out a lot less than 2 million emails to users, but thanks to the spam reporting policies of AOL and Hotmail, people who have optted in to receive our newsletter can say they’ve been spammed. Also with bulk emailing, some newsletters head off into oblivion!

So, when Tony hits “send” and emails the petioners, I wonder how AOL, Hotmail and other ISP’s will view this bulk email? Will people report these emails as spam? Will Tony Blair therefore be a spammer?

    Probably not as .gov.uk .police.uk and even .ac.uk addresses have higher trust rating with anti-spam systems due to how hard it is to get one of these address. As long as the mail servers used are configured correctly, come from an IP associated with the domain then most of it will sail past in to these systems.

    Of course if the users start voting that it’s spam on these systems then other users will be digging it out of the spam folder.. or if they send to many at the same time to an ISP they will think they are under a flood attack of spam.. But my money is on them getting in to peoples email boxes with very little issue.
