Entertaining Emails
Yesterday we received an email from a sweet manufacturer saying “please call me” and not much else of note. I can’t stand those kind of emails, after all if you have a question call me, not tell me to call you. Anyway a reply was sent back asking if there was a problem. The reply was “yes so please call”. This kind of riled me a little and replied accordingly. The next email asked “do you have an aversion to phones” - being antagonistic I said yes and proceeded to ask what her problem was and it would only be dealt with by email.
Apparently we were promoting a competition for this manufacturer and they weren’t happy and wanted to know how we found it. My reply of “it’s on your website, right hand side” didn’t go down too well… mainly because it wasn’t that competition (the fact we only had the one listed is by the by, obviously I was supposed to know!).
Turns out one of our users posted a different competition in the forum, and from the details (including email) posted there, they’d be inundated by entries, who as it happens were all now disqualified. I did point out that perhaps next time they don’t use email entry route (bad idea for competitions - always use web based forms!) - to which she replied she wasn’t sure if it did work with email (despite having received 100s of entries via email!!).
The whole email conversation took the best part of 8 hours and given the sweetie person’s inability to communicate it’s no wonder she asked for me to call her… she probably had no idea how to use the telephone! In hindsight I now wish I had called as it would have saved a heck of a lot time.
EMI Records you’re requested to head down to Devon and check out the local music talent! Someone contacted us, thinking we were EMI, and is very unhappy that talent spotters don’t head down that way.
Being ever helpful - a reply was sent back “Whilst I sympathise with your position and no doubt there are talented musicians in your area, I do feel that in order to get the ear of EMI records it would probably be best to actually contact them directly. Unfortunately we run a competition site and are at best tone deaf when it comes to recognising musical talent.”  Â
