Creating Content Units

Had a go at using the content unit options at Tradedoubler and Paid On Results today. A content unit utilises product feeds from merchants and allows affiliates to simply place a line of code into their site to provide useful content.

First up was Tradedoubler. The feed system at TD is at best awful – for example content from Oddbins has currently vanished, products in the main Health & Beauty section are gone and the quality of content is quite often poor. Sadly the content generation system follows suit. It’s unweildy and after 10 minutes of frustration this affiliate made his excuses and left.

Over at Paid on Results there were more feed fun and frolics. The POR system does have a degree of complexity, perhaps a case of being too clever for it’s own good. But, once a template was set up a content unit was finally establised for trampolines. A bit more editting and understanding and we have a nice looking with images the same size content unit. Now the first unit has been set up we’ll be looking at adding more POR based content using their content system – here’s hoping they result in improved sales too!
