Affiliates Need to Embrace Change….

Hot affiliate potato of the week is the decision by ASOS to contact affiliates through both Tradedoubler and Paid on Results and let a few of them go! For those that stay they can enjoy a shorter cookie period. That’s nice of them! The discussion rages at A4U.

The ASOS decision does put us in quandary though. On one hand our sites were deemed acceptable and we can now enjoy the shorter cookie period using Paid on Results. Great!! On the other hand on Tradedoubler something has been deemed unacceptable and we’ve had a 7 day notice of termination. Hasta La Vista Baby.

Now we have several TD affiliate ids, and therefore have no way of knowing which sites are ok and which aren’t. Yes we could contact ASOS or TD for confirmation, but all the sites we run are fine and all are run within affiliate guidelines – so there was no need for us to be kicked out (and as our sites are good enough on one network, surely they should be equally good on another?).

The current ASOS affiliage manager suggests affiliates should embrace change to progress in the business world. Well, when change occurs, affiliates can embrace it in many ways.

They can lie down and accept the changes are good for them and be thankful they are allowed to promote a merchant. Alternatively they can look elsewhere and find a merchant who is thankful they are being promoted by the affiliate.

In recent months their site has changed, but the product feed has not been updated. Commissions have been cut and cookies have been reduced. So all in all perhaps it’s time to move on and try another merchant. Also, I really hate getting emails that imply we’re doing something wrong.
