And The A4UAward Goes To…. Kate Winslett!
3 Comments March 17, 2009 / Posted in AwardsNominations are now open for the 2009 A4UAwards and that means a whole bunch of who am I voting for blog posts, begging tweets, and subtle reminders to vote for your favourite duck related blog people in affiliate marketing depending which area of expertise they’re in!
Firstly thanks to Lee for his kind words about One Little Duck. It’d be nice to be nominated (and of course win overall), but in reality I think Kate Winslett has more chance of winning Affiliate Marketing Blog of 2009 than this blog. If you do nominate me then thank you. If you nominate Kate Winslett then you’re just not funny!
I’d be surprised if last year’s first and second bloggers, Kieron and Kirsty, isn’t repeated in 2009. Both remain strong bloggers but there are things you need to know – Kieron doesn’t need another award as he can buy his own, whilst if Kirsty wins she’ll just let deadly Aussie spiders hang all over it just to get some blog content. Remember this when nominating, it’s important!
Seriously, I’d love to see Lee Mccoy get the nod over everyone as I enjoy reading his affiliate blog more than the others. It’s well written, thought provoking and fun – a bit like OLD, but with more pictures of Barbados. Mind you, Lee doesn’t have a grumpy gorilla as his new “me” picture (on the right)!
Affiliate Window don’t have a grumpy gorilla either, but they do have loads of awards on their front page. They get my nomination for Publisher’s Choice of Network. It’d be nice to see the award logos shared around a bit with the other networks though. If Awin do win then their login page is just going to be swamped with icons and it’s just going to look cluttered. Other networks have far more white space to fill, so why not give them a chance this year?
Moving on, does anyone know the difference between an Account Manager and Affiliate Manager? I’m confused!! I’m not sure who to nominate here – on one hand it’s tempting to go for some “a4u chums” because you can see they do a good job in the AM world, on the other it’s probably right to pick people based on their direct impact on your business! For me I’ll go with The Paddy Power affiliate team – and I’ll pick someone else when I figure out the categories!
A much clearer category is the Affiliate Management Agency of 2009 and rumours are that it is being renamed this year to the Existem AM Award. The only way these guys won’t win this category is if Slumdog Millionaire gets nominated. The award organisers could save cash simply by scratching a bit off the 08 from last year’s award and give it to them as the 09 one!
Like Kieron and Affiliate Window, Existem AM already have too many awards and logos and they need a year off! So share the love and give your nomination and votes to someone else (ducks)! Let’s not make the awards as predictable as The Oscars 2009!!
What we want to see is Sean Penn/Mickey Rourke style shock result in ALL of the categories! The only way for that to happen is to make sure your nominations are nominated.

My secret is revealed! All them spiders were just rubber fakes to give me an easy blog post, lol. How do you do it Duckman?!
Just to clarify, the ‘Affiliate Manager’ award will be open for nominations to any individual who works in-house as an Affiliate Manager on an ‘Individual’ programme. The ‘Account Manager’ award is open for nominations to anyone who works at an Agency or Network on ‘Multiple’ programmes. Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for clearing up the account/affiliate manager confusion Matt.
Kirsty – them spiders aren’t rubber fakes! They’re big, hairy and have teeth and stuff and for that reason I’m staying at home in Blighty. I reckon the Aussie tourist board should have a quiet word with you for scaring off would be tourists. Time to show some cute Aussie critters on your blog (or a Gorilla…)!
