Voucher Code Affiliates Called To Heal!
Heal’s are the latest merchant to decide that they no longer wish to work with Discount and/or Voucher Code Affiliates. Heal’s who have been established since 1810 announced their decision to boot certain affiliate partners into touch via Affiliate Window. If only they’d timed their blog post better then it’d have created a bit of blogging gold – Heal’s no longer working with Voucher code affiliates since 18:10 – ah well.
Anyway time fun aside the decision to drop these affiliates is the result of “a long process of assessing the incremental value”. One can guess that the results of the long process was that these affiliates weren’t adding incremental value. Not a problem!
So why the blog post?
The problem lies in the execution of the decision.
The notification states that these affiliates are required to “remove all Heal’s links from their site with immediate affect” and at least by Monday 20th April so they can “monitor the affect”.
Surely there must be a more appropriate time period for notice of being essentially kicked off an affiliate program? Why April 20th? Why not May 1st? Should affiliates be given sufficient notice? And perhaps I’ve misunderstood but haven’t they already undertaken “a long process of assessing the incremental value”? So why do they need to monitor things again from the 20th?
The second issue lies in what exactly is a Discount Code affiliate?
Many affiliates use the same network accounts for multiple sites – should they remove a code link or all links? Frostie alluded to the issue in his blog and asked for the Pigeonholing to Stop.
Far too often, especially with these code decisions, many affiliates are left in the dark (although you can contact Affiliate Window for clarification) or expected to dump links at a drop of a hat.
The result is that it puts code affiliates off wanting to promote the merchant on other sites that they may own. The sad thing is this could all be avoided by better communication and respect in terms of the merchant giving decent notice to the affiliate.

I’m now convinced that the only reason you blog is so you can produce Sun newspaper type headlines. You have missed your calling!
LOL! Damn, the secret is out!
)
The email calls us “Discount/Voucher Code Affiliates”
For crying out loud Awin – do you not listen to a damned word being said? There are voucher sites, not voucher affiliates!
FFS I give up!
These things just go in cycles with a decreasing amplitude man, have a Cadburys caramel and lean on a tree somewhere watching the sky.
First of all there’s a movement towards VC’s in terms of commission ‘leaking’ from content sites, so content sites will disappear off the face of the earth.. Then there’s an over-reactive response. (My grandad died of cancer therefore ban all smoking tomorrow morning or my child hurt head while not wearing bike crash helmet, therefore make all cycle helmets compulsory etc. etc).
In the fullness of time, as per Yes Minister, a middle ground will be reached.
Meanwhile mud becomes scare and more valuable than gold on account of it all being slung.
The worst thing that can happen is that a merchant can’t find any true content sites, because they’ve all gone or can’t find a pure VC site because they’ve all given up.
