Flower Order Delivers More Than Expected
Leave the first response March 14, 2007 / Posted in Affiliate MarketingIt’s nearly Mother’s Day and so being slightly more organised than usual I’ve managed to place an order with Interflora with a few days to spare. I used Interflora, who now run an affiliate program with Affili.net. The program is under new management now and this was a test purchase (and as it happened they also had the best gift idea).
The ordering was easy and as yet I’ve not checked the tracking, but at the end of my order I was told “Your purchase is complete. Click here to claim £10 Cash Back on your next purchase!”. Wow, I thought, that’s a nice gesture and would make a good promotional tag – but hold on, not everything that looks like roses smells like roses.
Following the link takes me to “Shoppers Discounts & Rewards” who gleefully tell me “Click YES below to start getting Cash Back at hundreds of leading websites… plus your £10 Cash Back Voucher”…. now, from a customer point of view, this might be a good thing, but from an affiliate point of view do I really want to send people to potentially end up joining a cashback site?
But, hold on, fellow agog affiliates – it gets better! The legend goes on “sign up for FREE for the next 30 days, with our compliments, and enjoy ongoing savings for only £8 a month thereafter.” – so the customer actually has to pay for the privilege to get cashback!
Having looked at the “cashback” site all the big names are there, and I do wonder how many merchants promote or will be promoting this service at the back end of the payment process?
