Console Yourself With No Commission

I’d forgotten that Play.com don’t pay commission on consoles – that plus Gameplay’s sudden departure to the affiliate network in the sky has left our Consoles and Games website decidedly more games than consoles at the moment. That’s probably not a surprise as Buy CDs and DVDs is purely DVDs. Trying to find a merchant who has a product feed that contains a good range of consoles is surprisingly quite tough. They’re either not in the feed, or the images are poor, or the categorisation not quite right.

I did consider using a third party script for the games and dvd sites, but our slightly ok-ish price comparison set up does an alright job – plus the fact most computer games are now roughly the same price there’s little to compare in the games side, and in the dvd area the merchants we’re promoting are usually the best anyway. Neither site really does much in excitement so the clincher was we decided to keep the nowt the sites earn rather than split it 50:50.

Staying with no earning of commission. One of our users recently posted about how they now shopped regularly at certain stores after finding details of their competition through us. The sites have affiliate programs, but not once have we earnt from the ones the user listed… now their are countless reasons why that could be, but it is concerning, especially as there’s no information or guidelines on any network showing test sale tracking or that kind of thing. On popular programs it’s usually easy to pick on tracking issues – not so on the smaller ones.
