A Place In The Sunshine But Without Turkey

Chris Clarkson of Sunshine.co.uk has got a lot to answer too. He bends my ear about competitions and before you know it I’ve fallen under his spell and am putting together a website to promote Sunshine as part of Mission 6 of their affiliate promotions. The thing is I don’t want to go to Turkey and I can’t go to Barbados – but hey a challenge is a challenge… I think!

Entering the fray therefore is Benalmadena Hotels. It didn’t take too long to do (cue a chorus of “yeah it shows”). It would have been done a lot quicker if Google Maps API stuff was in an understandable language and the longititude and latitudes for the hotels I was locating appeared in the right place on the location map – they’ve now gone to the “do another day” folder.

There was the option to go for the wordpress route, but there’s only so many wordpress sites you can do, and so it’s self coded to make use of the excellent RSS options from Sunshine’s affiliate toolbox.

So why this area? The domain was available and as we’ve been to Benalmadena hopefully, if the photos can be found, they’ll be additional content to add beyond the offers and feeds from Sunshine. The homepage image was picked up from iStockphoto. It made more sense to go with somewhere reasonably familiar and that can then be personalised in the future to provide a better service to users.

For me doing this made a bit of a change from competitions, bingo and the other stuff that gets done day to day – however tomorrow please no more challenges from anyone, there’s duck stuff that needs sorting before I get a few proper days off in the sun.
