MFI vs Norwich Union - Only One Way To Find Out….

A lot of merchants run competitions or promotions. Most don’t pay for leads, but then most don’t ask affiliates to push this aspect of their site as part of their affiliate program. Occasionally though a merchant might run a lead part to their program and ask affiliates to promote them. Last week MFI (Buy.at) decided to do this and this week Norwich Union (Tradedoubler) are doing the same.

But who has the best offer for affiliates?

There’s only one way to find out….

MFI are offering affiliates a small commission for leads, plus they’re incentivising things further by awarding a rather large leather sofa (worth £2550, unless you buy in the current sale then it’s half price) to one lucky affiliate via a prize draw. Norwich Union are running an 8 week Free Fuel Friday promotion. I know this as I’ve got an email telling me to “please drive people to www.happys.com back so they can enter the competition”. I’ve also got a doubleclick advert link, but it’s totally unclear how this should be tagged up with an affiliate url - if at all.

There’s also no commission offered for competition leads and no prize incentive. To top off this steaming turd of an email with a lovely cherry, there’s no details to contact either the merchant or network to question the content of this email and it’s relevance as part of the affiliate program set up! Boooooooo!

So on one hand we have a merchant offering cash and prizes for promoting their competition via their affiliate program - plus a contact who responds rapidly - (4 points)!

On the other we have a merchant who, based on their email, are asking affiliates to drive them traffic to their competition without explaining how to do so via an affiliate link or offering any incentive to do so. Plus there’s no contact details to get any answers - (0 points).

It’s a bit of a one-sided contest!

So it’s back to the drawing board for Norwich Union and Tradedoubler. Perhaps they can pick up some tips from MFI and Buy.at on how to do things in a much better way! They might even get their affiliates to feel a lot more happy!
