What Can You Learn From Flying Cows?

Remember the old joke… what do you get from a flying cow? Answer - a pat on the back! And as affiliates we all like a nice pat on the back once in a while. Month in, month out we’re writing content, updating links, checking stats, checking merchant sites, coming up with ways to promote, sending out newsletters etc etc that result in increased revenue… all without a boo to a goose.

Which is fine as Jude often reminds me “you’re not in AM for the thanks”!

But a “thanks” or pat on the back once in a while can be quite morale boosting especially if it comes from a merchant in a sector where you’ve had issues with others in the recent past (Are You Happy to be Bought…, Don’t Waste Time Flogging Dead Horses).

Pat on the Back

Firstly it tells me the merchant is taking interest in their affiliate activity - which is nice to see.

Secondly it reminds me that it’s a new month and that when considering new promotions to make sure this merchant gets extra attention. After all, I’d rather promote someone who wants to make the effort with their affiliates.

Finally it tells me that those merchants who have been dropped from our site because of poor conversions or bad attitude are the one’s who are missing out - and the decision to can them was the right one!

Give Your Affiliate a Pat on the Back!

A couple of “thanks for the traffic” emails here and there at the start of the month can be a good way to give your program extra attention. Telling your big guys they’ve done well is good, but don’t forget the newbies who have started generating sales for you or those who have improved too.

It’s a quick and effective way to morale boost your affiliates!
