What Do You Want From Affiliate Santa Claus?

Santa contemplates a long list of affiliate nigglesThis is apparently a made up story, but here goes.. an affiliate recently decided to pop along to Santa’s grotto at his local garden centre. Surprisingly there wasn’t much of a queue, and being a little bit intoxicated by the festive surroundings, he decided to pay the jolly fat one a visit. Amazingly, despite a few curious looks he managed to enter the grotto and chat with Santa.

“Ho! Ho! Ho!” said Santa “you’re a big boy”.

The affiliate gave him a surprised look, adjusted himself and then replied.

“Hello Santa”!

“What would you like for Christmas?” asked Santa.

“Well, I work in affiliate marketing” said the affiliate “and I’ve been fortunate to make a decent living from it, but I’m not all that happy by the way things are going”.

Santa nodded, he knew about affiliate marketing, after all he knows everything!

“So, what I would like for Christmas” continued the affiliate “is the following - I’d like all affiliates to play by the rules and not drop cookies in iframes and..”

“I like cookies” said Santa “make sure you leave plenty out on Christmas Eve and some carrots for Rudolph”

“..not nick/steal/accidentally place my exclusive codes on their sites. I’d also like networks to protect me from such affiliates too. Oh, and whilst I’m asking I’d like networks to make sure merchants play by the rules too - not chop/change commision at a whim, not close programs without sufficient notice, not offer lower commissions when a product is launching, not open programs that don’t track, not open programs, close them and then reopen them again as it pleases them … ”

Santa looked at the affiliate, smiled and raised his hand to hush him.

“I’m sorry” said Santa “but whilst I can deliver presents all over the world in one evening, even I can’t perform such miracles. Help yourself to a present from my sack”.

At that point, the affiliate made his excuses and left. Perhaps he’d try again next year, after all the same problems will no doubt still exist…. what would you like from affiliate Santa Claus?
