eComXpo - How About Something Similar UK Wise?

I’ve heard about eComXpo before, but up until today never bothered venturing in to see what it’s all about. To briefly explain it’s a virtual trade show where online marketeers can “meet” exhibitors like Google, Buy.at, Tradedoubler (how many staff do you need to man a virtual stand?) and even A4UExpo at a variety of virtual stands. Then via a chat client or a simple click of the mouse you can introduce yourself to the exhibitor and/or swap virtual business cards.

Each exhibitor has a bit of information about themselves, links to their sites plus some have special offers, promotions and prize draws. You can even win a trip to Monte Carlo simply by being the most proactive attendee! If you’re not familiar with eComXpo then pop along on the 10th or 11th October. If you have interests in the US market place then you should find it well worth the time.

eComXpo Earlier Today

The downside of the expo is that it’s very US orientated (well ok, it’s a downside if your focus is the UK). Very few of the exhibitors are UK based and after a brief flit around the stands (and yes I did enter a few prize draws including Google’s Travel Mug offering) that was that. However, it did occur to me that eComXpo is actually quite a neat idea that possibly could work in the UK!

Imagine a UK virtual expo where UK merchants could exhibit and where UK affiliates could go along for a brief chat or two and introduce themselves! Of course, nothing beats getting out and about to real life events (and I noticed today that A4UExpo 2008 is already being advertised… nice work guys), but a virtual offering might just bridge the gap between forums/blogs and real life events.

Not all merchants get to attend the affiliate events and not all affiliates get to have a direct channel to the merchants. Perhaps an eComXpo UK 2008 could be considered? Is it a good or bad idea? Would you attend a virtual expo for the chance to develop relationships with new affiliates or merchants?
