Logic & Sense Take a Break From Affiliate Marketing

I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but sometimes it feels like that all rational logic and sense have packed their bags, headed off to pastures new without once turning round and waving at Affiliate Marketing stood on the doorstep staring at disbelief that they’ve had the audacity to leave!

I guess if there was any sense in what we do then more people do it and if there was any logic, we’d get more done!

Only the lack of sense and logic can explain some of these recent phenomena:

Same levels of traffic = Awful revenue stats! I can’t put my finger on Tradedoubler at the moment. As far as what we’re doing not a lot is actually different this month to previous months, but commision at TD has plummetted faster than Britney Spears’ music career. TD have frequently been a good network for us, but since the end of August there’s not been a lot of excitement.

Has the loss of big names to other networks taken hold? Well yes… and there’s been some moves to independents as once a month stats are no good, but even so - lead gen programs aren’t even performing to their usual levels. In general we’re seeing a drop in sales for September, but only TD have performed really really badly. It just doesn’t make sense!

Rejections - Part 1! These are really starting to aggrevate me now! Today we got accepted by one jewellery merchant (H Samuel) and rejected by it’s counter part (Ernest Jones). Where’s the sense and logic in that? They’re the same company just about so where’s the logic? This has now been resolved. Thank you Awin - much appreciated!

On Hold! I don’t see the point of being ‘On Hold’ for an application. It only happens on TD and as there’s never ever ever any way of (1) communicating with the merchant (2) getting accepted or (3) finding out why you’re on hold - the whole system may as well be scrapped for a simple accept/reject! On Hold makes no sense!

Rejections - Part 2! Ok, fair enough if a merchant wishes to reject our application, but why do some networks/merchants never provide an explanation! It doesn’t take long to do and could rescue a potential affiliate from being overlooked. I’ve even emailed some merchants for an answer - guess what? Yes no reply! No sense, no logic!

This affiliate marketing thing could be so much easier (well accept for the mysteries of why some days/weeks your traffic just doesn’t convert on one network) but it doesn’t make sense that obstacles are put in place to complicate things for affiliates.

    1. I have always thought that a merchant would dissaprove an application because the affiliates website didn’t go along with the companies brand. I guess they are looking at it as more of a partnership than most affiliates do and only select affiliates that fit the profile. I’ve been dissaproved by some merchants that I thought would be a great fit for my website, and then went on to find I had been approved by another that really shouldn’t have approved of me. Some merchants might just take more ownership in their affiliate program than others, thats all I can assume.
