![]() | Baileys Leave Affiliate’s Thirsty For Answers! |
Baileys, the preferred drink of a sometimes had too much lager and needs to drink shorts Duckman, recently announced their largest ever consumer promotion in the form of Baileys Million. The site offers all users who register the opportunity to win a prize and the good news for the affiliate community was that an affiliate program had been set up to promote this giveaway extravaganza.
The program is on both Tradedoubler and Affili.net and being a competition portal, we applied! After all logic might suggest that a competition affiliate program might fit quite nicely with a competition affiliate? However, it’s at this point everything starts to unravel and logic and sensibility departs stage left.
First off our applicated was “denied” on TD. Not TD’s fault and when asked to investigate they said they would (although any further response would be nice, but no worries). Having lost out with TD, an application was also made to Affili.net. Again the network have been responsive to my questions so no issues there either.
From what I can gather, the agency managing the campaign has deemed us “unsuitable”. Fair enough, my thinking here is that it’s because we have gaming sections on the site. Drinking & gaming are probably seen to be not a good combination and (sarcasm) as we’re totally incapable of targetting a competition at our competition userbase (end sarcasm) it’s probably easier to say “no”. However, a more valid answer than just “unsuitable” for the brand would be preferred.
Anyway unfortunately due to the nature of our site, this Baileys Million promotion has been picked up by our users. In the past Baileys have never complained of any traffic we’ve sent them and I very much doubt they’ll be turning away people from the promotion based on the “suitability” of the site they originate from. C’est la vie - move on!
However I was slightly bemused today to read on A4UForum that affiliates were now “unable to discuss the campaign on a public forum”!
Why is that? Who’s spark of brilliance was that decision?
Why can this campaign be happily discussed here but not on an affiliate forum frequented by the very people who wish to work with Baileys’ on this campaign?
It’s mystifying! Even more so when affiliates are left waiting for answers about their applications and are left in the dark over what’s happening with the program. Forum discussion might not suit everyone, but the trick is to use it to your advantage and not detriment!
Affiliate program + affiliate forum + discussion = willing affiliates wanting to work with you… well provided they’re deemed suitable!
Baileys?.. Nah pass me the Havana Club Rum!

We’re still pending at both TD and Afilinet, though I don’t hold out much hope of getting approved if they’ve deemed Loquax as being “unsuitable” lol.
Strange one too regarding the thread being pulled on a4u - Haven’t had a chance to speak to Matt yet, so don’t know the reasons, but the TD thread is still up, so your guess is as good as mine. I’ve got a feeling this is what happens when someone who knows nothing at all about Affiliate Marketing is given a program to run.
btw, you’ll be great company for (our) Jason’s wife Emma at the next g2g - She too refuses to go near Baileys, but that’s mainly due to having had rather too much of it on her birthday one year!

I’m also still pending on both networks too
From what I understandm it’t not the networks to blame, as from what I hear, they are non the wiser as we are as the hold up is with the Agency. I don’t wish to tarnish all agencies with the same brush, but more often than not I find they simply get in the way of things!
Those that have been accepted and are busy pushing this campaign must be laughing their socks off as it may as well be classed as a CLOSED GROUP currently. The annoying thing is there is silence, no one knows what is going on. How many times have people said “Improve communication”…..
As for the A4U posts, I too find it strange, but I always find it strange when I am not privy to the whole story. I am sure there are reasons for the blocking, but would be intrigued to know what they are.

Any further news? I’ve had an update from one network (always good to receive updates whether they are good or bad news… there I go, banging on about communication ;))… Where was I… oh yeah, one network updated me saying that it’s now likely to be Monday before the agency verified my participation on this programme.
Does anyone know the reason for the hold up, or even which Agency is ‘handling’ this programme? I just want to be sure I have all the information before I vote for the A4UExpo awards.
