Using Merchant Promotions To Drive Traffic

If you’re a bit bored of the usual links and banners on offer to drive traffic then it’s always worth keeping an eye on promotions running on merchant sites. A little bit of time and effort can be used effectively to create different angles and interest. For example I Want One of Those have recently launched their IWOOTs competition - where user’s are invited to submit photo, reviews and video featuring IWOOT products.

Having previously messed around with a camcorder for the Firebox Film Festival, the camera and camcorder came out over the weekend to create entries for this competition. After some time - either spent swearing at Windows Movie Maker or Jude for not getting the ducks to act accordingly - a few entries were submitted including a Duck Illuminations photo and videos titled Reservoir Elvis and Reservoir Ducks (which involved filming a bunch of LED glow in the dark ducks in the bath).

Not only can you use the content for blogs and websites to gain votes (as demonstrated below), they’re also a great way of demonstrating products to your users. Simply attach your affiliate links too and you’re setting cookies too. Even better, if your visitors go on and vote they can get a £5 discount voucher off a £30 spend at IWOOT. So if you have a camera or camcorder, a bit of time can conjure some alternative linking methods to attract interest.

Note, that I don’t spend all my time taking photos of glowing ducks or making them “act” … I occasionally sleep as well!
