A Nice Competition From Not Designer

We often criticise merchants for the poor design of their competitions, so when there’s a good example of good design it’s important to make sure it’s highlighted… so step forward Not Designer. They’re currently offering people the chance to win a pair of sunglasses of their choice and here’s why we like it:

1. Branded Landing Page

Branded Landing Page

This isn’t that important, but it’s a nice touch and gives an affiliate (which doesn’t have to be a specialist competition site) extra reason to promote this offer. Their users will know that this merchant is recommended by the affiliate site for example and perhaps may be more inclined to take a look.

2. Not So Obvious Closing Date
Closing Date

This is more important for affiliates like ourselves. The usual closing date for most competitions is the end of the month. With over 500 competitions on average available on the last day of any given month, many competition promoters miss maximising possible entries simply by choosing an obvious closing date.

3. Offers & Discount After Entry
Offers & Discount

Absolutely brilliant! A competition entrant is offered a discount and examples of the best selling products after submitting their details (although perhaps a link to other products might be useful too). Whilst it may or may not generate immediate sales, there’s more chance this way than with just a “Thanks for the entry”.

So well done Not Designer, and hopefully other merchants and even affiliates can learn from these simple, but obvious ideas, and implement them when putting together competitions.

1 Comment so far - Thank You!

    1. Those are good tips, thanks Jason - especially the one about the closing date. On LoveHoney we’ve also gone for the psycho-illogical choice of the last day of the month - not any more.

      Cheers!
