Program Closed - Remove Your Links - Bend Over & Drop Em!

Do affiliates count for anything in this industry? Are we all misty eyed and deluded to a point that we actually think of ourselves as proper businesses, limited companies even, who perhaps expect a little bit of consideration and leeway when it comes to program closures? Or do networks and merchants think that closing a program at the drop of a hat is some bloody big joke they can impose on affiliates and we all continue along the way happily, merrily with rose tinted glasses removing links and thinking life is just swell?

Well - it’s not! And some poorly constructed, half arsed, zero notice program closure from Vernons and Affiliate Future makes for a very bogged off affiliate!

The Vernons affiliate programme will be closing, please can you remove all your links as soon as possible. We recommend login into your affiliate account to find appropriate replacement banners. All cookies will be honoured as normal and if you need any help please contact us.

Well ain’t that just great! Let’s now go and find all the links for Vernons and either (1) remove them altogether (2) go and find them on either DGM or CJ all the while wondering whether it’s actually worth the effort or (3) leave all the content in place, remove all the links and then slap bang a big go and play the pools or lottery at another games company who have decency and respect for their affiliates.

As for Affiliate Future… this isn’t the first time you’ve sent these kind of emails, and frankly it sucks. It sucks more than Mr Minty McSucker, world record mint sucking champion, who is currently at the Mint Sucking Olympics in Suckstown! As a network you get a lot of plaudits from affiliates and merchants, but the way you deal with program closures is just not good enough.

Well done, you’ll honour the cookie period - well how about honouring a fair notice period of a minimum of 14 days, even better 30 days? How about giving affiliates more notice? More information?

Can you believe it’s 2007 and apparently affiliate marketing has progressed and matured? I can’t!

Foot Note: The above was written in response to receiving a closure email. Since then I’ve been in touch with AF who have responded straight away and answered my questions. I’m still not happy about the closure period though :o)

    1. That’s more than I got once from AF - the only time I knew the program had closed was when it was in the weekly newsletter under “recently closed merchants” and my links stopped working!

If I was promoting a merchant and had a choice of network and these guys were one of them… I know which one I’d choose.
