Why Self Invoicing Is Good

I’m a big fan of self invoicing and it’s great that most networks implement this service. There’s no faff and there’s no hassle and we don’t have to go through episodes like this:

Firstly the director of network contacts me via messenger (this annoys me instantly as it comes across as kinda shady imo) asking for an invoice for an amount that doesn’t match the amount in our management area. As my business partner deals with accounting he’s told to contact her with the right amount, which he does.

Our first invoice goes in, but is rejected as rather than be paid for all outstanding affiliate activity as requested by the director of network, the network accounting manager now wants an invoice for every month! Now, in the management payment area we’re not given monthly figures but thankfully they’ve been nice enough to email us the breakdown. The revised invoices go in and all should be fine.

Accept it isn’t. The accounting manager today contacts me saying the amount for July’s invoice is incorrect. Although it isn’t as the invoice number is correct, although the month on the invoice is wrong - not quite sure why an accountant couldn’t spot that July’s invoice was right, but there was a typo on August but hey. What I really don’t understand is why they contacted me though, especially since they’ve been dealing with my business partner and have been told to contact her!!

Anyway, the amounts on the invoice don’t exactly amount to a hill of beans (let alone a tin of beans) and really just aren’t worth the time and that makes this whole episode even more irritating, especially when networks and companies who pay us real money can do so without any major problems. We’d recently made a decision to not do too much work, if any, with this network and it’ll be a relief not to have to go through this palava again.

    1. I empathise with you Jason, have had the same email from the network accounts guy last night, more than a tad annoyed as first three months combined are less than the payment threashold I have set, think these invoices will be going to the back of the Q. As will the network if they dont make payment easier.

    2. I empathise to Jason, same thing happened to me over the last few weeks, where the figures the account management area don’t match each other (i’m seeing three different numbers). Won’t be using them again.
