This week has seen two big affiliate incentives launched, one by Buyagift and the other by Buy.at! The prizes on offer are fantastic - a VIP trip to Las Vegas with Buyagift for six lucky affiliates and a 7 day trip to Tokyo to one lucky affiliate from Buy.at
Out of the two promotions though, it’s the Buyagift offer that stands out - mainly because they’ve given serious thought to their incentive and are giving all affiliates a chance to win. Naturally there’s prizes for their top guys, but new affiliates also have a chance to grab a place in Vegas as do established affiliates if they do at least 5 sales and/or show improvement in performance.
The Buy.at prize sounds great - 7 days in Tokyo - but the metric for determining the winner has slightly less clarity. Earnings in September are set as a base figure - if you make more than £200 in commission in October you then qualify for the competition, with the amount you earnt between October and the end of December calculated as a percentage improvement on your base figure (that’s the one in September). The top 20 affiliates then go in the draw.
I think that’s how it’s going to work… like I said it’s not clear. The calculation may be an absolutely brilliant foolproof system devised by a genius (and if we win it will be the best system ever) but for me it’s a little over egged and badly thought out.
Keith Budden suggests a “one entry per 10 sales” so that the high performers will have a fair few entries, but smaller affiliates also end up in the draw. This incentivises everyone to get those links up and make the extra effort. And it’s that kind of thinking that resulted in today being about adding Buyagift links and content as opposed to Buy.at merchants!
Competition mechanics aside, both prizes are fantastic and it’s great to see affiliates being offered rewards like this for their efforts. It’ll be interesting to see what other networks and merchants offer now the prize bar has been set - who will be first to offer a car (something like this).
