![]() | DGM Launch DGMPro 1.2 |
Today saw the launch of the latest DGMPro offering and what a difference a 0.1 makes! In comes information, easy banner views, program information, news, in fact everything a grumpy old affiliate requires to make their life a lot easier. This praise is based on just an initial look around the site but it looks good - and maybe it was just me but the links seem to resolve and work a lot faster! In fact I’d go as far to say that this new v1.2 is potentially easier to use than some other networks - so a job well done!
Staying with other networks it’s good to see merchants making effort to offer affiliates content units but can merchants/networks please take into account that not all affiliates can accomodate one size units. So please can we have either some flexibility or some different options? If you’re creating one unit size, it’s only the same code (ish) to create a different one!
Take Uswitch on Affiliate Window for example. Now switching gas and electricity suppliers is big news at the moment, so the Uswitch search box content unit could be quite a useful thing to use… accept the sizes on offer are 468×60! Given that users tend to ignore banners it’s no use as a banner - so it needs to be accomodated in a page… accept our middle content areas are not 468 wide! So we can’t use it.
Another example is Kelkoo’s new travel channel option. Launched on Tradedoubler, this 500 wide unit would again be a useful addition to a couple of websites - but it’s just too wide. Now I guess we could adapt websites to accommodate these units but I don’t believe our sites are unusually narrow or out of the norm. How many affiliates can really utilise these units? It must be possible to develop a content unit that utilises the 100% table width or offer one or two other sizes (preferably around 400 wide).
And just so Buy.at don’t feel left out… Butlins also have content units… they do have a narrow version, but as it’s the size of the Eiffel Tower again it’s not quite useable. The best unit has the latest holiday offers in, but it’s just too wide!
A quick survey or “what size content units would you use? would you like? would be best?” might be a good idea before merchants launch what are brilliant concepts that we’d definitely use but just frustratingly can’t as the sizes on offer aren’t useable. Just for the record… I’ll be contacting the merchants listed above to see if smaller units can be offered!
