Butlins Bingo Goes On Holiday

Received an email from Buy.at this morning saying that Butlins’ bingo affiliate program is off on holiday!

“Please note that we will be temporarily suspending the Butlins Bingo Programme from 17th August 2006. This decision has been taken in order to allow Butlins Bingo to improve their tracking, which will enable them to offer affiliates a stronger and more profitable programme. Butlins Bingo would like to thank you for your efforts and understanding, and look forward to working with you again in the near future.”

I’m baffled by this decision. Why can’t they just simply implement improved tracking whilst the current program is running? Surely it’s not technically impossible to manage this? Buy.at even have another St Minver bingo site (Littlewoods) running with revshare and CPA, so I’d be surprised if the tracking coding was that difficult to implement. All they need to do is set up the coding, get it working, then annouce with a month’s notice that the program is changing to new conditions. Why is that so difficult? Pulling the program to “welcome it back” in the near future does little for affiliate/merchant relations.

And how long is the “near future”? Do we need to take down established content? Or should we add a disclaimer saying “well we’d like to send you to Butlins Bingo, but we can’t so why not go to another bingo site instead”? No prizes for guessing what’s going to be happening….
