Wordpress FAlbum for Flickr

After posting some duck related stuff on this blog, it seemed like a good idea to do the same on Duck Holiday. At the same time I decided to revamp the site a little, start adding some content and also rejig the photos that are on the site.

Wordpress allows a siteowner to quickly change the look of a site, but it can be a pain at times when you’re using plugins (add-ons to enhance the look and feel of things). Duck Holiday was using a plugin to show Flickr photos, but no matter how much code was changed it was impossible to get the pages right.

After searching around another plugin, Falbum, was installed and then the fun really began. Wordpress plugins install easily and usually work - except this one didn’t. For some reason the plugin just gave 404 page not found errors. Looking round the Randombyte forum offered some help (including the right code to add to the .htaccess file) but it took a bit of tweaking (and a lot of swearing) to eventually reach the end of what was meant to be a 5 minute job.

The duck photos are now better laid out, and you can even find photos by their tag. The site also has some extra content - all duck related (and if you sell duck type things let me know). The site probably won’t generate much in the way of revenue but finding content and creating pages for Duck Holiday beats working on other “more exciting” topics like Buy Insurance!
