Weightwatchers To Slim Down Affiliates

According to their latest email Weightwatchers are the latest merchant to take the slightly strange route of removing affiliates:

“We will be reviewing our publishers over the next few weeks and if there has been little or no activity from your website, we may need to remove you from our programme at the end of June. You are welcome to re-apply at any time when you are ready to begin promoting Weight Watchers.”

“We may need to remove you from our programme at the end of June” - why? for what reason and purpose? what does this solve?

So they’re going to kick affiliates off and then let them back on? So why kick them off in the first place. If I’m not doing anything at the moment with the program what difference does it make to them if i’m on the program or off the program. The number of active affiliates stays the same - the percentage doesn’t though so perhaps some number cruncher wants to see “100% active affiliates”.

If affiliate managers spent their time getting creative in the right sizes sorted, making sure programs converted and tracked, updating feeds, and generally making sure their affiliates were happy instead of farting about with who’s active and who’s not active stats then affiliates could probably get on and be more pro-active.

    1. I’ve never quite understood this logic myself. Seems to me that affiliates who are kicked out of a program for being inactive won’t be too pleased, making the chances of their re-joining the program “when they’re ready to begin promoting” pretty slim! If they’re left in the program, however, a fair number would probably start promoting eventually.

I suspect you’re right about it being an issue of “% active affiliates”, Jason. :)
