The Webmaster Fights Back

The one drawback to running a newsletter is that occasionally you get an abusive email from someone telling you in no uncertain terms that they don’t want your email and that the best place for it isn’t in their mailbox but somewhere dark and in an upwards direction.

It’s not usually the best idea to reply to these people! Removing their details via the unsubscribe link usually suffices. This would be the same unsubscribe link that they inevitably ignore but include in their replies and had they actually used would have taken less of their time then actually writing an email.

Anyway this morning in came such an email. As I was about to hit the unsubscribe link I noticed that under at the bottom of the email was a message saying ”If you have any complaints about the content of this message please reply to…”! Perhaps it was because it was first thing in the morning or perhaps it was because the email had a sch.uk suffix, either way I decided I had a complaint!

So I replied and told the headperson of the school that such abuse and disregard of the email system and rudeness towards people in general was unacceptable. A reply from the deputy head quickly appeared with a full apology and notification that the sender would be dealt with as the email badly reflected upon the school.

So listen up kids, you can’t go round telling siteowners to shove it and remember to eat your vegetables!

    1. […] Jason Dale had a well deserved rant about the inequality between the offers available to bigger brands and those available to affiliates. Jason recently also posted about someone wanting to leave his mailing list. It’s not a weekend blog post but it did make me laugh […]

    2. I am usually tempted to email someone who does this with “Look at the bottom of the email. There’s a link there that says Unsubscribe.”

Never had anyone with a .sch.uk address though! Maybe sometime in the future…
