Received an email enquiry this week “We’d like to sponsor a competition on your site. We want to capture data. Contact us for more information”. Erm, hang on! Aren’t they meant to be pitching interest to me? What company are you? In fact who are you? Why would I be interested? I wasn’t interested before getting your email and as I’ve no idea who you are I’m still not interested.
On the other hand you do get the opposite where a 65Mb powerpoint file is dumped in your mailbox offering a detailed history and background of the company! This is too much and again (as I tend not to look at any powerpoint files sent to me) I tend not to get interested.
If you want to gain my interest at least have the decency to tell me about who you are, what you do, what you can offer me and why I should be interested in replying to your enquiry! No nonsense just plain facts!
Oh and cut our the BS too! I just love reading things like “Our website has over 200,000 registered users” and so you visit the site and on registering you discover in fact you’re actually user 12000 leaving you wondering which list the other users are hiding on.
Our Christmas site Xmastime is still not quite finished but despite it’s Anti-Googleness the site is getting reasonable traffic and is it’s best state for the time of year compared to other years!
Finally - good news, we finally sold our house! Went on the market nearly 2 years back, sold it, buyers pulled out last minute, missed the housing boom, rented, tenants weren’t the best, sold it but at a lower price and finally it’s completed. Hooray!!!
