![]() | Co-Reg Confusion |
I must be missing the point with some Co-registration deals as everytime I start to consider using them I just can’t bring myself to use them! We have done some co-registration deals - usually they’re easy (e.g. enter an email address) and have paid well. New affiliate network Webgains are offering co-reg deals with a number of merchants which is a great feature.
However, for a merchant to pay the affiliate the miserly sum of 15p we need to send them name, address, and other details. Yet… if we instead link to the merchant site and send our user to register we get 3 times that about (we’re talking big potatos affiliate marketing revenue here btw - *cough*).
Same details! Same result in a new user for the merchant… but why bugger all of the money. I can’t figure it! In my opinion a merchant on a co-reg position should be paying more. Firstly they’re being offered the chance to “muscle in” and gain access to my new user and second they’re being offered a prime advertising position (imo but hey). Regardless of who co-reg’s or not, the merchant is being featured and advertised so 15p is not good enough - not by a long way!
One company taking Co-reg to a new level though is PrimeQ! They’re running competitions for a number of prizes including a flat in London. After entering their details a user has to add a phone number then plough through almost 10 pages of co-reg offers. How many the average user happily takes up is one thing - how many are required to cover the cost of the flat in London is another. I just hope they’re being offered more than 15p.

The problem I have with co-reg is that if people join your site as say loquax@ and they then sign-up to co-reg with a bunch of other Merchants, when they start to send email to the user, they have forgotten they joined the other sites at same time as yours and so get hacked off at you for sending them loads of emails when you have not. The other problem is some companies who get co-reg emails think they can now send everything under the sun to that person and before you know it your own newsletter is totally not effective as everyone has blocked you.
However I have no problem with people that want to use co-reg as a way to make money as you probably make more, than if you had to send someone to a direct site.
