Apparently DGM employed “an expert in information architecture” to develop their improved system for affiliates. I don’t know who this expert was, but judging from the resultant system that is DGMPro I’d guess that this expert has never ran a website or wanted to get a link 5 minutes prior to a newsletter mailout or just wanted to get a few banners up before a few pints down the pub on a friday (after receiving the weekly DGM newsletter).
Ok, building an affiliate network for several thousand affiliates isn’t necessarily the easiest thing in the world and all new systems will have bugs and flaws and stupid quirks. But then again it’s not rocket science to understand affiliates want to (1) get links quickly and easily (2) have transparency and (3) have their sales reported. So how the hell did this expert manage to completely miss all of them!! Did he not turn over the DGMPro brief?
I still find it incredible that DGM actually claim publishers tested the system. No half decent affiliate would ever accept that the system is useable or even close to other network offerings. Ilayers as I understand it are only compatible with Netscape. Iframes? Like no affiliate tester thought to point out “erm, excuse me DGM where’s the html banner code”? Like no affiliate tester managed to spot the several glaring annoyances that I posted about here without even getting started with the infernal thing?
Designed by “experts”, tested by “publishers”, unusable by affiliates, run by … well you can fill in your own suggestions. I’m too polite to say ;o)
Anyway, I think that’s enough comment about DGM/DGMPro from me and on this blog. Such is the situation I no longer care about the network. It’s that bad! Perhaps one day we’ll look at preferentially using DGM links again, but for now a number of our sites, including this blog are now DGMFree (*).
* That’s unless DGM say anything else even remotely amusing about the DGMPro system that naturally requires a wee bit of comment or after beta-testing the new system goes live ;o)
