Saints Alive!

60 seconds is a long time in football. And it only took 60 seconds to change Saints from “quite likely to be relegated” to “we still have a chance to survive”. When Charlie Nicholas announced on Sky Sports that Danny Higginbotham had scored in the dying seconds against Crystal Palace half of Swansea must have known about it (drowning out any Swansea promotion cheers!!).

The 2-2 result doesn’t make Saints safe and Norwich’s lucky win against a 10-man Birmingham side gives them pole position. Man United could have buried West Brom but another hapless performance by them means that the Baggies are also in with a shout. Whatever happens next Sunday will be a tense affair. I’ve experienced a few of these relegation days before but this one is different. Usually there’s 3 or 4 teams battling to avoid one relegation place, next week it’s 4 teams battling to avoid three relegation places!!

One side definately in the Premiership next season is Wigan. When I first started this blog I said something about how difficult it will be if Saints are in the Championship and Wigan and Portsmouth are in the Premiership - it’s looking quite a possibility now :o(
