Just received an email from Google regarding our trademark and it’s use in adwords. The email was in response to an advertiser using Loquax as a trigger for their advertising campaigns. Whilst I know the Google people are busy the email was sent on 23rd January 2005 - but as the saying goes better late than never!
To be fair when we’ve had problems the Google UK team have been exceptional in getting things sorted out. In one case we emailed them at 10.30pm and had a reply and a result by 11pm the same evening. Sorting out trademark issues are a pain, but it’s nice to know that things can be resolved quickly and painlessly, even if we’re not a multi-billion pound worldwide corporation (well not this week!).
Staying with Googles, Google Adwords and other PPC marketing is something we’ve never really done as an affiliate. I read today how much UKOffer spends a month - when we last dabbled with PPC we were talking pocket money figures, not the cost of a Third Division striker! Since day one with Loquax, I’ve hated spending money and in seven years our total external advertising budget is probably under £1000 - that wouldn’t buy some PPC’s a couple of days Google Adwords!!
Although the rewards are obviously there for the PPC guys (and I do admire the ones who work with monopoly money), it’s still not something I’ve felt an urge to take on on any scale (somewhere higher than we’ve spent before but a lot less than six figures!). I like doing what we’re doing and not having to worry about ROI. Besides I already have enough stats to keep me happy without adding to them.
